Milk Tea
It’s sweet, creamy, bold, and refreshing. Milk tea is the broader category of the popular boba tea. This post is focusing on milk tea since that’s the base for boba tea.
If you want to add boba, go for it. You can order them from Amazon or Walmart. Just make sure you’re only ordering the boba and not the tea kit.
This milk tea recipe was tested with Uncle Lee’s Tea, jasmine green tea. You don’t have to use this brand or flavor, but you may need to adjust components.
Jasmine Green Milk Tea Ingredients
1 c boiling water
6 Uncle Lee’s Tea, jasmine green tea
3 Tbl sugar
5 Tbl whole milk
Jasmine Green Milk Tea Directions
Place 6 tea bags in a heat proof safe mug. Allow to steep for 5 minutes. While it’s steeping, take the tea bag strings and pull them up a few times to circulate the water through the bag.
Pull 1 bag out at a time and squish it with a fork against the side of the mug. Repeat until all of the bags are out. Add 3 Tbl of sugar to the hot tea and stir until the sugar dissolves.
Add 5 Tbl whole milk to the tea and stir. Refrigerate a few hours. Pour over ice before serving.
Notes
I make some milk teas with 4-5 bags of tea. It depends on the flavor intensity of the tea. If you use loose leaf tea, usually you’ll need 14-18 grams of tea.
Maple syrup, brown sugar, and honey make good sweeteners. If you use maple syrup, you may need to increase the amount of syrup. You’ll need to decrease the amount of sweetener use if you use brown sugar.
Some teas are too acidic and will curdle the milk.
